Upcoming in December

Wrapping up November and hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break. Just some small announcements for December; we will have After School Program through the end of the semester, then we will offer school break camps for those parents needing to work or shop during the kiddo's holiday break. We also have American Karate, Zumba and the Adult Fitness class. We will have our annual Navidad en el Barrio on Dec 19th as well, come on out in December and check us out.

It went well

It has been a while since we have posted anything, the blog, twitter and facebook page was a summer experiment to see how many people we could reach and if we would have any interest moving forward. We would have to call it a success, hopefully more parents can view the blog next summer but with almost 12,000 hits in 10 weeks we really got the word out with the info on events and our videos posted to youtube were very popular as well. We are thinking about giving the winter and spring sessions a chance as well and see if interest continues.

So have a great Holiday season and check back with us soon, we might have more pictures and events to comming to the blog soon.

Movie Night in the Park - THIS FRIDAY 8/14/09!

We will be watching "Bedtime Stories" staring Adam Sandler this Friday night. Come out to Greenbriar Park and watch this charming movie with friends and family. Admission is free and their will be a concession stand with drinks and snacks as well. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs; we will get started at 8:30, movie starts at dusk. See you then.

Happy Birthday PACS!

The Fort Worth Parks and Community Services Department celebrated 100 years of serving the citizens of Fort Worth on July 29th. We had the campers make pinatas and cards to help with the celebration and we bought cake and ice cream for the party. We had a lot of fun celebrating the first 100 years of service to the community, and look forward to 100 more.

Talent Show

Well we had another succesful talent show. Greenbriar Idol had lots of great acts, congrats to all that participated! We even had our own version of Randy, Paula and Simon.



Destiny and Tanea were this years winning team and will represent Greenbriar at the city wide talent show next Thursday at Will Rodgers.

Archery at Greenbriar

Here is a couple pictures of the campers doing archery INDOORS!

We teach the 11 steps to archery success and practice safe range set up with the campers, through curriculum and training from NASP and TPWD. We work off the whistle command system and the campers have a lot of fun.

Kayaking at Greenbriar

Well they practiced indoors on the gym floor, then the next day they got to actually kayak. They had a lot of fun, hope you enjoy the video.

Greenbriar campers were out on the lake Friday practicing the kayaking skills they learned in the gym the day before. All groups got out and had a chance to try it, along with these photos we took video as well. We will be uploading soon.

Looks like they learned something new and thanks to practice in he gym their was no causalities. Just a lot of fun in the sun.

Kayak Practice

Greenbriar's outdoor education program has always been a core to our camp's curriculum. We have a unique way of teaching our outdoor education by starting indoors in a more controlled environment first. As you can see from the pictures below we are practicing kayaking INDOORS!. How crazy is that? If you want to learn more about our outdoor/indoor training you can read an article that Athletic Business did about us last year, Out Through the Indoors, By Nicholas Brown.







You can see the campers working on strokes, how to get in and out of the kayaks and they find out these "things are as scary as I thought" said a little camper on Wednesday.

Fashion Show

Well like we said in the previous post, the Girl Scouts of America came out and helped the little group put on a talent show. Here are some of the models and their creativity dresses. Used tissue paper, tape, glue and construction paper. Pretty impressive stuff.

Summer Day Camp FUN

It is craft time at Greenbriar. Kids teamed up with Girl Scouts of America to put on a fashion show. Very entertaining.

Update: Movie Night in the Park

Sorry folks that we haven't given the blog all the attention it needs. Camp is going great and keeping us very busy. The next few posts will be updates on previous programs

Our last Movie Night in the Park was great! We watched Cars and had a good turnout even though it was a record high in temperature. The HIKIDS sponsored event raised over $100 for the advisory council and was free to the public.

Well sorry it has been a while since I have been on here, we have been busy planning our Summer Day Camp and getting ready for our June classes.

Some of the upcoming stuff you should be aware of:

Adult Circuit Classes - Monday/Wednesdays 6:00-7:00 p.m.
$25.00 a month *must have membership card

Youth Sports Summer Basketball - Registration ends this Saturday May 30th
FREE to youth 5-17 but must have a valid membership card

Family Movie Night in the Park - We will be showing "Bolt"
June 19th - this event is FREE to the public. Movie starts @ 9:00 pm
Be there at 8:30 pm for door prizes

Ballet/Dance classes will resume at Greenbriar Wednesday June 3rd
6:00-8:00 pm $25.00 per month for each class *must have valid membership card

iMac is comming

The staff here at Greenbriar are very excited, we should be receiving our new iMac tommorrow.

This was purchased with grant money and will be used to highlight our programs, assist us in teaching our outdoor education to other cities without leaving and much more.

Once we get it up and running we will start posting pics from our recent special events.

WOW - April has been busy

Greenbriar Great Outdoors, two Saturdays ago, was a huge success and our Easter event had over a 100 kiddos here last Saturday as well. It has been a busy month here at Greenbriar and I apologize for not posting more, but I was on vacation recovering from our Greenbriar Great Outdoors event.

Month summary:
Greenbriar Great Outdoors had over 1,300 people here over the course of the day, the fishing tournament and the disc golf tournament were well attended and participants had a lot of fun. The programs taught by Texas Parks and Wildlife included kayaking, archery, wild game calling, bowfishing, game processing and we even had a hunting dog demonstration courtesy of Izzee. We finished off the day with a family movie night under the stars; Open Season 2 was a hit and everyone had a blast.

Easter Eggtrazaganza was a fun event as well. We had an Egg hunt with over 1,200 eggs sponsored by HIKIDS and we had Bounce Houses, Backyard Bass, Disc Golf and a putting area for kids and parents to participate in. Kids not only walked away with eggs but quite a few left with prizes as well. Be sure to keep us on your calender and remeber to come back to Greenbriar next year.

Great things are happening at Greenbriar! We have had a parking lot improvement, gym floor improvement and next up is the roadway into Greenbriar Community Center. Summer day camp is around the corner and we have 3 upcomming special events more to come in the next couple of days
